Infomaster e-Commerce Objectives
As Internet is evolving rapidly in today's business world, many companies and Government organizations
are taking the advantages of e-Commerce as a tool to improve their efficiency and competition in the market.
There are many successful cases in companies and Government organizations that use e-Commerce to achieve important objectives.
These objectives include:
To Reduce Overhead Costs
Government organisations could reduce overhead costs by eliminating human handling in such areas as data entry, mailroom sorting, document preparation and circulation. In addition, substantial cost savings can result from reduced error rates. These savings include savings in labour costs normally used to search for errors, and in lowered expediting costs. Furthermore, reduction of inventory costs through shortening order processing and delivery cycles, and generally lowering inventory levels. Lowered inventory levels result in corresponding reductions in carrying costs. Inventory costs can, in some businesses, account for as much as 90 percent of total product cost, so even modest reductions in this area can result in dramatic savings.
To Reduce Cycle Time
The need for Government organisations to transmit business information quickly is imperative in today's business environment. With business information exchange between Government organisations, electronic data can be sent and received 24 hours a day. Because electronic data exchange allows business to continue outside the normal business day, the turnaround time for a business transaction can be reduced from days to hours and, in some instances, to minutes.
To Increase Accuracy and Efficiency
More than 70 percent of manual data entry tasks originated from computer-generated documents. When Government organizations develop compatible electronic documents, data is never copied, re-keyed, or manually filed -- freeing employees for value-added activities. When used as a strategy to improve business processes, e-Commerce solution can eliminate tedious work and reduce the risk of human error. It can also enable Government organizations to move toward a paperless environment.
To Optimise Inventory
Managing inventory is a critical issue for any business. E-commerce solution can provide faster and more accurate information about inventory status. Replenishment can be driven by consumption. Future and changing needs can be quickly assessed and responded to without manual intervention or review, thus leading to improved inventory management.
To improve business relationship with trading partners
Setting up e-Commerce solution requires both trading partners to gain a better understanding of each other's business processes. Implementation involves the entire organization -- sales, marketing, manufacturing, logistics, information systems, finance, and customer service. It typically brings the people within these functions into contact with their counterparts in other organizations. E-commerce solution expands channels of communication and leads to better working relationships between the partners.
